The Windmill Ice Cream Shoppe!

We ended Mother’s Day with a trip to a long time favorite Ice Cream Shoppe.  If on the way up you take hwy 8 west to Hwy L (which is the old hwy 51 that we took up here for years) and go north a bit you will see the Windmill Ice Cream Shoppe. There to greet you are 3 charming girls Cassi, Annie and Beth and some of the best ice anywhere.  It is a very unique place and once you are finished it is a short ride north on L back to Hwy 51.  Definitely worth the stop. Thanks Girls!!!

Abe Clark

While my granddaughter was visiting she told me about a very interesting person I would like to share with you.  Her teacher (who used to teach in Minocqua!) has a daughter Katie who is engaged to Abe Clark. Abe is running across America to raise money to provide clean water to Haiti. My granddaughter Kate shared his website with me. I looked at it and was so fascinated with his journey and purpose that I wanted to share it with all of you. He started at the Pacific Ocean and you can follow his trail all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.  He has a cart he  pushes along the way that he named Ruby.  If you read his blog you will find out why it’s named Ruby.  His blog is so interesting I hope you all have time to look at the website and enjoy his journey through his blog. The picture was taken from his website which is www.runningwater.cc. You can click on it and go to the website. I hope you enjoy his story as much as I did.

A New Coffee House!

In the Trigs Mall the video store is gone! In its place is the Floral Store that moved out of the grocery store and a Coffee Bar! I was hearing so many good things about it I had to check it out.  It is a wonderful spot, pretty with flowers and gifts and a wonderful coffee bar.

And they even added a great place to relax.

What a great addition to Minocqua!

The Special Home in Minocqua

I am sharing here with you one of the comments on the special home as it is all correct and much more detailed than I even knew. These houses both sit across from Bosacki’s. Thank you Micaela (owner of one of  my favorite scrapbooking stores ) for sharing all this information!  :

This house and the larger house next to it were both Sears houses. In the early 1900’s Sears sold complete home packages under their “Modern Homes” catalog division. Sears took advantage of many new modern advances in building material (for example drywall) and could ship the materials and plans for a home to consumers. This Minocqua home pictured was the “Ridgeland” model number 13302 and sold for between $1,293 and $1,496. This model was sold between 1933 and 1940. I think the scroll on the chimney is the letter “S”.

A Favorite Stop

On our road trip to Wisconsin Rapids the other day we stopped at a favorite place. Rudolph, WI and the Wisconsin Dairy State Cheese Company.  They make the best cheese around and have such a fun place to shop.

Here is the Store:

A cute little Ice Cream Shop and a great display of antique cheese servers:

And you can even watch them making the cheese.

Everything is so clean and the cheese is so good!

The Answer! And a New quiz!

The answer to our first “What is it?” is: It is a structure built at the high school as a climbing tower to be used by their Journey’s Class. The students are all tied into safety ropes as they explore the structure.

Now for a new What is it?
